Emancipation of Lives

Buddhists do not believe in killing for food. In accordance with the Buddhist virtue of compassion for all sentient beings, our abbot, the Venerable Guan Cheng, frees tens of thousands of sea animals locally and in China every year. He does so with a group of volunteers, and personally verifies that the animals are healthy before they are taken out to sea for emancipation. After a Buddhist ceremony, the creatures are carefully and systematically released into the water by the abbot and volunteers.

“There is no greater deed than freeing lives and stopping the killing."
- Golden Mountain Living Buddha Translation (1912)
