Freeing of Animals and Sea Lives

As Buddhists, we recognize the importance of cultivating compassion for sentient beings. Therefore, we not only abstain from slaughtering animals for food, but actively engage in efforts to set them free. We believe that inflicting suffering on animals to satiate our palates is not only cruel and selfish, but also sows harmful seeds of hatred that will result in future karmic retributions.

Every year, our abbot, Venerable Guan Cheng, organizes events to free captured animals from the meat and fish markets of China and Southeast Asia and releases them back to their natural habitat.  During each event, our team of compassionate and enthusiastic volunteers carefully verifies that all animals and sea lives are safely and properly released back to their habitat. Our volunteers also participate in a blessing ceremony to help the emancipated lives take refuge in the Buddha, Dharma and Sangha before they are released.

In 2012, Venerable Guan Cheng initiated a new charitable project to set up a Pure Land Retirement Community for Buffalos in Bangkok, Thailand. The goal of the project is to rescue aging cows from being slaughtered and to place them in a remote farming community with dedicated staff to feed and take care of them until their natural death.

We welcome any willing donors to join us in our effort to release captured animals and sea lives in China and/or rescue aging Buffalos in Thailand (A donation of CAD$1,000 can free one Buffalo. Smaller donations will be used to purchase cow feed).
