Venerable Guan Cheng, born in Hong Kong and a graduate from the University of Toronto (B.A., M.B.A.), was formerly a professional accountant (CMA, CPA).

In 1981, he founded the International Buddhist Temple in Richmond, British Columbia, Canada. The temple’s exquisite architecture, landscaping and Buddhist artwork has earned its place as a popular destination for Buddhists and tourists alike. The temple has also been awarded the 125th Anniversary of the Confederation of Canada Medal.

In 2010, Venerable Guan Cheng established the Vinaya Samadhi & Prajna Lecture Hall in Hong Kong and has since used it for his Dharma propagation and charitable projects in southeast Asia, including Dharma talks, releasing captured animals, student aid and poverty relief, participation in the Hong Kong Book Fair, and circulation of his Dharma publications.

In 2013, the Venerable established the Bowen Forest Monastery on Bowen Island, British Columbia, Canada.

Venerable Guan Cheng has written and published Buddhist articles and books in both English and Chinese. He regularly gives lectures at schools and universities, and his online Dharma talks have reached over 10 million views. His insightful and powerful teachings have benefited countless people in their search for true happiness and meaning in life.
