Description
Enshrined in the Sangharama Bodhisattva Hall, General Guan is one of the protectors of monasteries and of the Dharma. Guanyu was a general from the Three Kingdoms Period of China in the 2nd century, and he was known for his undying loyalty and noble spirit. Four hundred years after his death, General Guan’s vigorous consciousness met Master Zhiyi. Moved by the Master’s sermon and psychic powers, General Guan was conferred with the Buddhist precepts and vowed to protect the Buddha’s teachings. The murals engraved beside the walkway leading to the Sangharama Bodhisattva Hall detail the deeds of General Guan. The vivid figures make the murals rare art pieces. Honouring the Sangharama Bodhisattva provides protection from disasters and bestows abundance to the giver.
