Memorial Ceremony for Individuals

$0.00 CAD

Devotees can invite our Temple’s monastics to recite sutras and cultivate merits for the transcendence of the departed. The Ksitigarbha Bodhisattva Sutra and the Amitabha Buddha Sutra are common options.

The names of your ancestors, or other loved ones who have passed on, can be inscribed onto ceremonial tablets, as a symbol of respect and remembrance. The tablets are honoured in the Ksitigarbha (Ancestral) Hall and Gracious Hall at the temple, where memorial chanting services are held. The prayers guide the departed as well as all sentient beings towards peace and Enlightenment. Permanent longevity tablets are also available for the living.

Buddhists believe chanting sutras and repenting can cleanse karma created from bad deeds and can cultivate immeasurable merits. During the ceremony, devotees invoke the Buddha’s compassionate power to help themselves and the departed learn the Buddha’s teachings, make amends for their past wrongdoing, and liberate themselves from suffering. The effect of the participants’ good intentions and the monastics’ power accumulated through observing the precepts is inconceivable. Memorial ceremonies are a significant way to bless the departed so they can be free from suffering and quickly attain Buddhahood.
